Finding Calm in the Chaos

It’s almost December, and I know this time of year lands differently for each person reading this.
Some are navigating loss, others are managing family dynamics that drain rather than nourish, and many are simply exhausted by the pressure to feel festive when they’re barely keeping it together.

Finding Calm in the Chaos: A Gift for Yourself and Those Around You

Especially at this time of year, one of the most powerful things we can do is learn to pause, breathe, and come back to center.

Whether you’re a parent, guardian, grandparent, auntie, uncle, teacher, or anyone caring for children, or simply moving through your own days, your nervous system affects everyone around you.

When we create moments of peace for ourselves, we’re modeling something invaluable.

It doesn’t have to look like this peaceful setup in the photograph, with singing bowls and a sound bath meditation…

If you care for children, it can be:
- Three deep breaths before picking them up from school or entering your home.
- Five minutes of quiet before the bedtime routine begins.
- A short family meditation or sound bath session together (even just listening to calming music).
- Noticing when your shoulders are tense and letting them drop.
- Saying “I need a moment” when you feel overwhelmed.

If you don’t have children, it can be:
- Starting your morning with a few minutes of stillness or gentle music.
- Attending a sound bath or meditation class in your community.
- Creating a calming corner in your home with candles or/ soft music.
- Taking mindful breaks throughout your day to check in with your body.
- Setting boundaries around holiday obligations that deplete you.

Children don’t need perfect caregiver. They need real ones who show them that it’s human to feel stressed, and brave to tend to your own wellbeing.

And those without children? You deserve that same grace and care.

You’re not being selfish when you prioritise peace. You’re remembering that calm is always within reach, even in the noise ❤️
